My daughter’s finished room
A few months ago my twelve year old daughter came to me and asked for a room makeover. She wanted a “teenager” bedroom. I’m not going to lie, I was a little sad, this is my youngest which means no more “little kid” rooms. That being said, I always love a great room makeover. So we came up with a plan, and went to work.
This is what the room looked like before…very very girly. Like a six year old picked things out right? I guess an update was due.
First thing we did was pick a bedspread, then the wall color. She wanted a gray bedspread and I found this one from target. I love how “thin” it is. Her bed is a daybed and I need to be able to tuck in the back without too much trouble. We also re upholstered the headboard with a fabric that I found at JoAnns.
The color she chose was called color tide from Sherwin Williams. It is neutral enough to pair with other colors, but it has a beautiful hint of robin’s egg blue. I kept her shelves white and painted the drawers on the bed. We also purchased new sconces for her wall which she loves to turn on at night to read. We found them and Lowes. She wanted a pop of color so I found some fun coral pillows to put on the bed to add that punch of color she wanted.
I scooted the dresser away from the window and it gave us a great space for a reading chair. There are large trees outside her window, and when you sit there it is like you are in a tree house. Way cool. I found this barrel chair at Shopko of all places for a great deal. It wasn’t an expensive chair, but for a kid’s room, it gets the job done. I found a great throw at TJ Maxx that added a little bit more of the coral color and a soft white pillow. I found these great napkins on Amazon and knew they would be great for the window treatments. I love to take napkins and drape them over tension rods to add a little bit of texture and softening to the window.
I painted her dresser a deep emerald green to add one more pop of color, and I found a cute coral lamp at Hobby Lobby. I found a couple of cute printables on the internet, printed them off, painted existing frames gray and placed them in the frames for art. We found a fun full length mirror at TJ Maxx she can use to get dressed, and a clock on the small wall.
There is such a calm feeling in her room that I just love, and a room makeover is always something fun to do in my book!

We are in the process of making over our son’s room into a Teen room too! It’s such a tough transition isn’t it? I hope ours turns out as beautifully as yours!
