    Vintage spring touches

Spring is having the hardest time getting here in our neck of the woods. It has been so snowy and cold where we live, sometimes I wonder if warm weather will ever get here. Having said that, I decided to add some spring touches using some of my vintage finds. I love shopping around my house, and rearranging items to give the home a fresh look. One way I like to do this is by using my typewriter as a display for some spring art. This is a picture I painted of Christ Church in Oxford. When we there there, there were so many beautiful flowers blooming and a lot…

    Traditional Christmas house tour

It’s almost Christmas. It is one of my most favorite times to decorate my home. This year I did a more traditional Christmas. I took my decor and grouped like items together. Doing this made me enjoy the collections I have collected over the years much more. I spread things out around my home to make it feel magical for my family. I love all the lights, garland, trees, and Santa’s. I hope that it helps my family feel excited for Christmas throughout this season! Enjoy the tour.

    A Traditional Christmas Tree

Christmas to me is a time for traditions. I feel very sentimental thinking about Christmas’s past. Having said that, I like to decorate my home with things I have gathered through the years. I change it up a bit each year placing different items in different spots or adding new garland. Our Christmas tree is an example of that. I know I have written about this before, but it has been such a great tradition in our family to collect ornaments each year, or each trip we’ve been on. I put the kid’s names and year on the bottom of the ones they pick out. It is fun to see…

    Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments

If you want a fun and easy craft, try some salt dough cinnamon ornaments. Years ago I made some cinnamon applesauce ornaments which I still use today. I was looking at Miss Mustard Seed’s blog and saw her tutorial for the cinnamon salt dough ornaments here. https://missmustardseed.com/molded-salt-dough-gingerbread-ornaments-christmas-crafts/ The ornaments were beautiful and very inspiring. I made a batch of her recipe and put my own spin on them. I did not have any cookie molds, but I had this patterned rolling pin. I rolled out the dough with a regular rolling pin first until the dough was about 1/2 inch thick. I then went over the dough with the patterned…

    Dining room re-fresh

It has been so long since I sat down and wrote a blog post! There have been a few changes around here since I last posted. Namely, my dining room. So when we bought this house I was so excited to have a dining room in it! I always wanted a dining room in my home, and I always wanted to paint it red. Here is a picture of my red dining room. We painted the walls a pretty true red color and toned it down a bit with white and gray. The change started when I decided I needed a new dining room table, one that could seat more…

    Spring touches

I love the clean feeling of spring. Everything is coming alive, we clean out the yard, we clean our houses. As spring approaches I love putting away the heavy throws, cozy pillows, and all the heavy winter decor. When I decorate and change a room for each season, I choose small things to change and refresh. This year I decided that I would change up some pillows on my family room couch to add a clean new look. I found a tutorial here online on how to make envelope pillows and I got some fabric and went for it. Wow…just that little bit really gave my room a new, clean…

Step by step tutorial for re finishing furniture

So I am working on my daughter’s bedroom makeover, and in the process we decided that we would swap dressers with our two girls. My youngest daughter originally had a dresser that was mine when I was younger. It was yellow and blue which matches my older daughter’s room. Well, my oldest daughter had our old dresser I had found at a thrift shop years ago for only $20 bucks and was using that in the closet in her room.  I decided that I wanted to swap the dressers and paint the thrift store dresser to go in my youngest daughter’s room. Long story short, I was looking for a…

Christmas touches — My living spaces

I am running behind this year. Usually I post earlier in the month, but this month has seemed to get away from me. I am going to show the rest of my living spaces in this tour. I have added Christmas touches all over my home this year, it is simple, traditional, vintage, and I love it. I added some Christmas touches to my dresser. It is the first thing you see when you walk in my home, and I wanted it to have some Christmas cheer. I have my Merry Christmas sign, my nativity from Germany, and my santa note in my typewriter. I put a Christmas pillow on…

Christmas touches – My dining room

I love Christmas time! Decorating my house is one of the highlights of the Christmas season for me. One of my favorite rooms to decorate and to be in is the Dining room. We eat in our dining room every night, and it is so fun to make it a festive room that everyone can enjoy! For my table this year I went clean and simple. Since we use it every night, I needed the height to be low so we could talk to each other. I bought a grain sack table runner, took my old books I had on my buffet, a cake stand from my hutch, the large…

    Fall touches – mantel stairways

When we were renovating our home, we decided against putting a mantle above the fireplace. I just wanted a clean wall. This opened up our room and gave it a lot more space. The only problem was where I was going to decorated my “holiday mantels.” I have two stairways in my home. One going up, and one going down. We created shelves in both areas. This became the perfect place for my holiday decorating. In the downstairs hallway there was a natural shelf created from our foundation. It use to be just dry wall, but we trimmed it out and added some brick. This is an easy place to…

    My fall yarn wreath

Yea! Fall is almost upon us. I am busy getting all my fall decor ready to display and enjoy. Fall is my favorite season of the year. I think it is the funnest to decorate for because it stays out so long. I love the textures, colors, and smells. The house just feels more cozy when my fall decor is out and around us. I was looking at my fall decor the other day and I decided two things. I need to refresh what I have, and my daughter needs a fun craft to do with me. So we got busy and came up with a fun wreath design for…

Some fun design inspiration from London

It has been so long since I have posted. Holy cow May took me like a storm. My oldest son graduated from high school this year, so for his graduation gift we decided to take him on a trip  to London and Germany. I love going to Europe and seeing all the architecture. It is what I am most interested in. I had never been to Germany, so it was exciting to see all the different buildings and houses that Germany has to offer. The small villages were so quaint, and the houses were true German style. I can’t believe what beautiful detail there is on all of the old…

    My clean routine

Happy Monday! It is warming up a bit here, and  I am in the mood to clean! It is no secret to those who know me that I am a neat freak. I like a clean house, an organized house, and a life run on structure and routine. Still, I don’t want to spend my whole day cleaning, so I came up with a system I have used for years that works for me to keep my house clean and organized. TIPS FOR A MORE CLEAN AND ORGANIZED HOME: #1  DON’T GET OVERWHELMED! Only cleaning your house once a week is great and it is everyone’s dream, but the reality…

Easy, fast, no sew silhouette project

It’s Monday, it’s snowing, and it’s cold. Perfect for a fun and easy craft. Silhouettes. I love Silhouettes. They have such a fun vintage feel to them. I wanted to hang a silhouette of Danica on her wall since her room has such a vintage feel to it. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to create it, and I finally decided on fabric. I bought an old wooden frame a while ago at an antique store. I love cool looking frames, and I was looking for just the right thing to put in this one. I took a picture of the side of Danica’s face, and had…

    Creating a gallery wall

My decorating style around my home is pretty simple and straight forward. I don’t usually do large gallery walls that contain a lot of pictures and items. It feels too cluttered to me. I have seen beautiful gallery walls, but for the most part I like hanging one large item, or sets of items on the wall, and call it good. I hung large pictures along my hallway wall. All lined up and straight forward. Hanging large pictures on large walls helps fill up the space, and keeps the wall interesting without looking cluttered. I also like to fill up wall spaces with large architectural items. This old door not…
