Delicious Baked Oatmeal
A few weeks ago, I had to do a brunch for a large gathering of people. My son was leaving on a mission for our church, and we were having a farewell send off. One of the things he asked me to make was this baked oatmeal recipe. He and his friends would bring this oatmeal to share and eat for breakfast on mornings of their finals at school. He would always tell me how delicious this recipe is to make, but I had never tried it. I made it a week or so before the farewell, and my family loved it! It is so delicious and hearty, everyone who…

Outdoor bench
When I was creating my porch this year I decided that I wanted to make a bench for it. I had been looking online and found the instructions for this bench here . It literally took this much wood to create a great bench, and it cost about $15. My hubby and I (mostly my hubby) followed the instructions and it turned out awesome. I wanted it to stand out from the house, so I grabbed my favorite go to gray paint…man cave… and painted the legs. I decided to stain the top to add some interest. It was a fun and easy project that didn’t cost a fortune. It…

Sunflower pots
Are you looking for something fun and unusual to pot flowers in? A few years ago, I found these metal garbage cans and decided they would be great to use as planters for my patio. Each year I planted something in them, and just didn’t love how it turned out. Then this year I was shopping and found these sunflowers. They are small, great for pots, and look great in the garbage cans. I love them! It is a pop of happiness on my patio.

Easy Pom Pom Wreath
Hi, Danica here. The Fourth of July is one of my all time favorite holidays. I love the fun summer barbecues, fireworks, and decorations. I absolutely love crafting, so I couldn’t let the season go by without making my own Fourth of July craft. So my mom and I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some supplies to make a fun pom pom wreath. All we needed was a foam wreath frame, about 200 pom poms, and some hot glue. And so, we set to work gluing the pom poms on, trying our best to avoid getting burned by the hot glue. I wasn’t so successful, unfortunately. Before we knew it, we had a cute, new…

Some fun design inspiration from London
It has been so long since I have posted. Holy cow May took me like a storm. My oldest son graduated from high school this year, so for his graduation gift we decided to take him on a trip to London and Germany. I love going to Europe and seeing all the architecture. It is what I am most interested in. I had never been to Germany, so it was exciting to see all the different buildings and houses that Germany has to offer. The small villages were so quaint, and the houses were true German style. I can’t believe what beautiful detail there is on all of the old…

Sprucing up the yard
I love spring, the flowers, trees leaf out, the weather gets warmer…wait…I live in Idaho. We don’t get warm weather until July. Anyways, this month has taken me for a ride. I haven’t decided yet which month is more crazy. December or May. I’m thinking May this year. Even though my life has been a bit crazy, I still made time for my yard. We have had a couple of nice days this month which we took advantage of to work on the flower gardens and fences. We decided to stain our fences this year. I love to paint furniture, walls, paper, but I am not a fan of painting…

A one of a kind shelf
So it a while back I found this great architectural piece of wood at my local antique store. When I say a while back, I mean probably a year or more ago. Every time I went into this store I wanted to buy this piece and create something with it. A few weeks ago I got my chance. A few weeks back I made a few changes to my family room and bought an old radio. This started kind of a spiral of sorts. I had a chair where the old radio was, so I had to move the chair to the wall where my cool arrow hung. Since I moved the…

Touches of spring – my family room
So I took the day last week and spruced my house up for spring. I put away my furry blankets, winter pillows, and candles. I replaced them with a few fun touches of spring. I got out my flower pillows, lighter throws, and created a fun spring display for my ottoman. A lot of this I did with things I had laying around my house. I feel that rooms don’t need huge makeovers every season, but a few touches like pillows and flowers really make a difference. I also love to raid my son’s old book collection. I totally gave him a bad time when he was bringing these books…

Touches of spring…the dining room
I am so excited for spring. It is like someone switched a light switch around here. It went from snowy and cold to sunny and beautiful in a matter of a week. I am having fun adding some touches of spring to my home. The first room I started with was the dining room. I recently finished a cabinet, and I was excited to accessorize it. I got in the mood to change things around one sunny afternoon, but I didn’t want to go to the store to find things. Shocking, I know. So…I did the next best thing and went shopping in my home. I had a wire basket…

My clean routine
Happy Monday! It is warming up a bit here, and I am in the mood to clean! It is no secret to those who know me that I am a neat freak. I like a clean house, an organized house, and a life run on structure and routine. Still, I don’t want to spend my whole day cleaning, so I came up with a system I have used for years that works for me to keep my house clean and organized. TIPS FOR A MORE CLEAN AND ORGANIZED HOME: #1 DON’T GET OVERWHELMED! Only cleaning your house once a week is great and it is everyone’s dream, but the reality…

Easy, fast, no sew silhouette project
It’s Monday, it’s snowing, and it’s cold. Perfect for a fun and easy craft. Silhouettes. I love Silhouettes. They have such a fun vintage feel to them. I wanted to hang a silhouette of Danica on her wall since her room has such a vintage feel to it. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to create it, and I finally decided on fabric. I bought an old wooden frame a while ago at an antique store. I love cool looking frames, and I was looking for just the right thing to put in this one. I took a picture of the side of Danica’s face, and had…

Creating a gallery wall
My decorating style around my home is pretty simple and straight forward. I don’t usually do large gallery walls that contain a lot of pictures and items. It feels too cluttered to me. I have seen beautiful gallery walls, but for the most part I like hanging one large item, or sets of items on the wall, and call it good. I hung large pictures along my hallway wall. All lined up and straight forward. Hanging large pictures on large walls helps fill up the space, and keeps the wall interesting without looking cluttered. I also like to fill up wall spaces with large architectural items. This old door not…

My favorite…and the best….cinnamon roll recipe
My kid’s second trimester ended last Thursday, and they all did a great job in their classes. I decided to make my favorite all time cinnamon roll recipe to celebrate with them. They were all excited to come home to fresh homemade cinnamon rolls. This really is a great recipe. The rolls are soft and delicious, and the chocolate chips add just the perfect amount of sweetness. I have been baking a lot of bread lately, and this recipe turns out nice every time. My family loves them, and they are yummy enough to take to your friends or neighbors. Enjoy! Prep. Time: 4:00 Serves: 12 – 15 1…

To chalk paint or not to chalk paint
I have been painting furniture now for a very long time. About eighteen years. I have painted everything, end tables, shelves, desks, cabinets…you name it. My go to paint has always been latex wall paint in a satin finish. I like it, it is easy to use, doesn’t chip, and it lasts a long time. If I am painting cabinets, my go to paint is Sherwin Williams cabinet paint. Those are really my staples. So when I found this sewing desk and began thinking about re finishing it, I wanted to try something new. The finish on this desk was in pretty bad shape, but it was a solid wood desk, could…

Danica’s room reveal
Danica and I have been talking about her room for a while now. When we first moved into this home almost six years ago, her room was the first room we did. She was ten at the time, and wanted something girly and pink. She has since grown up, started high school, and her style has changed. Remember what the room looked like before? Very pink, and a little too young for a freshman. We painted it gray, and went with a totally new look. The room is now very calm and serene. We painted her book shelves white, found a new bed and desk, and put an amazing chair…
